I like to keep my C: Drive fairly barebones especially as I keep all my applications in another drive. This also makes it easier to backup my C: Drive with a smaller file.
When I buy a new comp I generally uninstall all the teaser software and since I have my own preferred utilities, firewall, AV etc. I generally uninstall these for my preferred. My preferred already run off my APPS drive and not C so they are not a problem.
This time is a mite different because Thinkpad supplies some usable apps such as their Thinkvantage software. They also have pre-installed some software I am not familiar with so I now have to decide whether or not to keep this software. However even if I keep it, I'd like to reinstall them in my APP Drive. With some exceptions such as ThinkVantage, which I'll leave in C:
My questions are:
Can I uninstall this software, download from Lenovo and reinstall in my APPS Drive?
And if so, does anybody have any opinions on the quality of these programs and whether they're worth saving?
Multimedia Center for Think Offerings?
InterVideo DVD?
PC Doctor?
DisKeeper? (so far I'm not impressed)
Thanks

I think you can download all the thinkvantage software by google search and then install them in different directory.
I've never used media center or intervideo DVD software. I only use winamp and K-lite codecs w/ MPC for my media files playback.
There is no need for PC Doctor or Diskeeper on your system even if your computer has hardware problem but it's just me. I use lots of free software that doesn't need to be installed to get hardware info.
For laptops I usually put both apps and system on the same disk and make this big image file(no more than a DVD capacity, ~4.1GB usually) because I know once I need to restore the system, it's probably also the time I need to repartition the whole drive or swap drive. So putting apps and system on the separate partition doesn't really help me a whole lot.
I do keep a separate partition(usually pretty big) so that I can just dump whatever I generate (download files, temp CD/DVD images, personal documents and photos, system backup files, etc) in there. This big partition is also shared between different systems(windows and linux mostly) on the same physical hard drive.

I like the Diskeeper program because it automatically defragments your HD whenever the CPU is idle, and this feature is automatically disabled when you go on battery power. If you use AC some of the time you may keep it for a while and see how you like it. I've never ever had a problem with fragmentation of my HD, and in fact with Diskeeper installed whenever I attempt to do a manual defrag it never takes more than 5-10 minutes, and usually less, because it never gets fragmented. Of course if you have a defragger already with this feature then Diskeeper doesn't do much good. I never use the other programs you mentioned though...

The MultiMedia program is a large program. I believe it's a copy of Roxio but I'm not 100% sure because some of the parts open with Sonic and others Roxio.
I opened it up and it looks like decent burning software but I'm not sure. I already have Nero 8.0 Ultra but if this is better software I'm game.
As for the InterVideo DVD, why the hell do they have this massive MultiMedia burner AND a separate DVD package?
EDIT: I just looked again and that InterVideo is a part of MultiMedia in the Programs but it is separate in Add Software.
And where the hell does Sonic play in all this?
I'm confused

OK, Roxio owns Sonic. This is the list of files in the MultiMedia. Does anybody know anymore about the quality of this package? I still have NO idea where the InterVideo DVD fits in all this, especially because when you go to Start > Programs, InterVideo is listed UNDER MutltiMedia Center

For newer thinkpads, look under C:\SWTOOLS.newmanm wrote:check out the \ibmtools\ and \ibmtools\apps\ folders on the c: drive
