I'm starting a new thread for "dietpepsiaddict". Too much caffeine....lol.
dietpepsiaddict wrote:I have an I-series1300 and I can't find a DVD drive for it anywhere!!! I am always watching DVD's on my fathers laptop, a Dell ( EWWWWWWW!!!!!

) And me bieng a HUGE Thinkpad fan would much rather use MY laptop.
We are working on getting the exact model number. They would like to know if any are interchangeable with this series. I know that they are hard mounted but is it possible to replace a CD with a DVD drive?
Thanks folks for your understanding........lol.

Thanks for the new thread phool@round. I don't know why the drives wouldn't be interchangeble, and also bieng hard mounted, GEEZ that's really annoying to take out. (three screws).
Sorry my first thread wasn't very descriptive, I was in school at my 20 min. lunch. (we were stuck inside all day they wouldn't let us out it was -25 degrees celsuis up here in Wasaga Beach)
Thank you in advance. If you need any more info just put up a post.

I can't help much, but I know someone with an i-1400 with the same desire. I'll be watching this post for sure...
BTW: the line in my sig is a quote of my dad when I was somewhere around 14. It proves true every day.

Well I figured the two of you would meet and looky what's happened.
... I should have been a minister!
dietpepsi - your welcome! This should get more attention for a fun project than having your thread buried in someplace else. Shouldn't be a problem to sneak a DVD in there. I noticed all i1300 have CD-Roms though so it may take some trial and error. The big thing is to find out "what type" of connector the CD-Rom is using. Maybe a pic will help but I don't doubt it's a standard.
I don't know that much about any of the iSeries but that's why it's important to give the type and model because with enough detective work many things can be discovered.

Alrighty now, I found all this on my cd rom drive.
It is a Teac cd 224-e
Model ver. B25
Part no. 1977047b-25
Serial no. 7189102
Manufactured in Feb 2001
I also saw these numbers and letters in a box at the top of the drive, they were: 3892A886
It is a class 1 laser product
It is a 50 pin connection (pretty sure)
I hope this helps!!!

Fifty pin? By any chance is that a straight connector like a hard drive or is it like a long oval. Also is there an adapter on your drive?

Sad to say, I have never taken out a hard drive!

.
Although I do know what you mean. It is a rectangular connection not an oval.( this I know for certain). I estimated that it is about an inch and a half across and is offset. ( not in the middle.) And before I forget, there is "NO" adaptor on my drive.
I hope some of this actully helps

- My Thinkpad is a 1300i 1171 9AF
- I need a DVD OPTICAL DRIVE, not a driver.
- To phool@round: I do drink caffiene free! ( my user name would be a few centuries long
