Fan Replacement - Thermal Paste or Thermal Grease??

#1 Post by canflyboy » Thu Feb 28, 2008 9:24 am

I'm getting ready to do some maintenance on a noisy CPU fan and I want to have everything ready when I attempt it.

The manual calls for "Thermal Grease" to be applied in certain areas upon re-assembly.

Silly question - is "Thermal Grease" the same as "Thermal Paste (Arctic Silver)"?

Thanks

Thanks

That's a new one on me. A "grease" is typically used to lubricate whereas a "paste" is used as an adhesive. Those two terms, to me, could be more opposed.

You would think, but companies also make thermal adhesives for computers.

And if you have ever used thermal paste you know its pretty greasy. Just as hard to get off....
