Replacement for Matshita DVD drive?

#1 Post by daneguy » Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:42 am

I've got two of these drives and they both have difficulty with burned discs. Is there a repacement DVD for T43 other than the Matshita? If so, where can I get it?

If you do not mind the Straight bezel (as opposed to the T43's curved bezel), you could replace with the HLDS (GSA-4083N) FRU: 39T2679 as used in the T60's.

A few other choices:

Matshita UJ-842:
39T2729 = 40Y8622 (curved bezel designed for T4)
39T2677 = 40Y8623 (flat bezel, designed for T6)

Matshita UJ-852:
39T2851 (flat bezel only)

I also have the GSA-4083N (flat bezel only) and it's very quiet compared to my old Matshita UJ-822S. Hope it helps

Are you sure that it is the drives? I had a lot of trouble reading CD's I had written with both my internal drive (Matshita UJDA765) and an external CD/DVD writer. I discovered, after a lot of experimentation/ trial and error that it was the ISO format used by Sonic RecordNow having problems with file names.

Changing to UDF format, available in Nero, cleared the problem.

I'm pretty sure it's the drive. I've tried discs from many different companies and burned on different software with the same problem.

Fortunately, I found out they're under warranty. Hopefully, I'll get a better one this time.
