A couple of questions before buying a X41 Tablet

#1 Post by ulrich.von.lich » Thu Feb 28, 2008 2:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I've been a ThinkPad T series user for more than 2 years now. Recently I've decided to purchase an X series ThinkPad, probably an X41 tablet. I don't know much about the IBM/Lenovo's ultraportable lines and I have a couple of questions here:

1. What will I miss from the X60/X61 Tablet apart from a faster processor and a SXGA+ screen?

2. How many hours can I really get from the X41t w/ 8 cell battery? I can get only about 4 to 5 hours from my T43 with 6 cell plus ultrabay battery. The 9 cell plus ultrabay battery is a bit too heavy for me although it would've been close to what I need (about 7 to 8 hours)

3. Is it tough enough? Is any part of the machine likely to be broken? I don't abuse my ThinkPads but I don't baby them either. I'm glad I had picked up a T43 which I can hold with one hand without worrying to much... there's no GPU loose problem in the X series right?

4. Is its smaller keyboard comfortable to type on?

Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Regards,
Tony

A 7200 rpm disk for one thing. Slow disk speed is the bottleneck in the X41T
2. How many hours can I really get from the X41t w/ 8 cell battery?
When new I could get 5 hrs with normal settings and 6 hours with minimum brightness and WiFi off. 3 years later it's more like 1.5 hours, but battery degradation is to be expected.

The hardware has been exceptionally reliable and the machine seems to be rugged enough.

It's not bad. I have larger hands but don't find it at all difficult to type on.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Do a clean install. The factory image on the X41T will drive you crazy with its poor reliability and slow speed. After a clean install it isn't bad. Clearly not a speed demon but very tolerable.
