Why is everything CTO?

#1 Post by ducky2802 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:00 pm

Ive noticed that all the thinkpads on the lenovo site are CTO models, while Tabook lists the actual models for sale.

I remember a while back being able to buy these specific machines on the products page, but now, it always wants to customize. I dont doubt the usefulness of figuring everything I want, but dont they have online "express" models? I heard they are still available if you call, but Id like to see them online.

Thinkpad T-42P 2373 GUU-2.1 GHz; 2 GB RAM; Mini-dock
::Sierra AirCard WWAN 875::NMB Thai::
RIP-Thinkpad T41 2379 DJU

It's not just lenovo alone, the entire computer industry is moving to CTO products, most top manufacturers have already been offering it for quite a while now, including lenovo. This type of offering costs a company more money as compared to mass production of pre-configured models that saves time and costs less labor.

Listing pre-configured models online takes a lot out of a company especially when it already has another system in place, from maintenance of regular inventory to availability, resources, web space, time etc. etc., in short involvement of many other factors. However, if you would still like to see such configurations for sale online then I suggest, look them up on lenovo's reseller(s) websites or lenovo outlet.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

It sure seems like all them computers are making cto a big part of their business. While I really like the idea and the prices are fairly competitive, sometimes, I like to forego my exact customization and just pick a few off the spot pre-configured, at my door fedexed overnight.

I often peek at the outlet products but only a few times do I see prices comparable with current cto models. Oh well, I guess Ill just have to resort to my usual antics of getting non-cto models.
