T23 Ram upgrade partly kills wired network

#1 Post by Wookie » Fri Feb 29, 2008 11:36 am

Hi

I've treated my T23 to a 512Mb stick of ram, but now the ethernet connection doesn't work fully.

I had 128Mb ram and I've added a 512Mb stick, it passes the thinkpad POST fine, and linux memory test aswell. I'm running Xubuntu btw.

The problem is the ethernet connection won't work with either thunderbird or firefox anymore, but it does work from a terminal, I can ping and telnet no problems.

If I remove the ram upgrade everything works fine again.

Any ideas ?
Cheers

Run the memtest86 on that stick, it is available on most of Linux distros, and if you don't have it there, Google for it and download it-it's free.

This does not sound right, not at all.

Good luck.

Just Out Of Curiosity

It might be interesting to see if things improve with running just the 512 guy in the primary memory slot. Pulling the keyboard only takes a couple of minutes, and you probably want the bigger chip in the least-accessible slot anyway to make the next memory upgrade of the 128 megger trivially easy.

Edit for stupidity: I was confusing the 2x series with the 4x series; obviously you don't have to pull the keyboard on your T23. Sorry!

That was the linux memory test that I used, it passes with flying colours with both sticks in but the network don't work fully.

With just the 512Mb in the slot the top slot it everything works, weird, nevermind loosing 128Mb stick is no biggie.

Thanks for your help guys.

Well, now it's time to put the 128 megger back into the other slot. By any miracle does the machine continue to function normally?
