I have a T60p (8743CTO) that came installed with Vista Home Premium. I am thinking of re-formatting my hard drive and installing the slip streamed version of Vista Ultimate with SP1 from MSDN downloads. What lenovo drivers do I really need to install besides video, wireless LAN, wired LAN, UltraNav and TrackPoint? Anything to look out for?
Thanks.
Clean Slipstreamed Vista SP1 Install Using MSDN Disk
Re: Clean Slipstreamed Vista SP1 Install Using MSDN Disk
Clean install of Vista is relatively easy, compared to a clean install of XP.Starfer wrote:I have a T60p (8743CTO) that came installed with Vista Home Premium. Just download the System Update utility from the Lenovo site ahead of time and put it on a USB drive or some other place where it will not be over written.
Vista contains the drivers needed for ethernet and wireless for your ThinkPad so you can go online right away and then install System Update and have it present you with choices for what you prefer to install after Vista is installed.
For example I leave out Rescue & Recovery and Access Connections and such.
Of course, you could also download the ethernet and wireless drivers ahead of time too, just to make sure.
Remember, the downloads just unzip into C:\Drivers and the user must then go to that folder and run the appropriate setup.exe for the item.
System Update will auto-detect your machine if you tell it to, or you can manually enter the model info in the field. It will then select the appropriate items for your machine.
This is what I have done and it works well.
a clean install of Vista installs everything you need basically (except the fingerprint reader). Upon doing Windows Update tho you'll be presented with updates for your hardware which i install. Then i install the FPR driver and software and the Power Manager and that's that.
