Windows Updates

#1 Post by blu3ic3 » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:58 pm

I've been having trouble installing 2 Vista updates on my T61p and was wondering if anyone had similar troubles or knows how to fix.

Update for Windows Vista (KB941649)
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)

Thanks for the help.

I would say "if it works, (if it ain’t broke) then don’t fix it" however if you insist then read the installation instructions for KB941649:
Microsoft wrote:There is an issue that causes offline, unattended installations to fail. This issue does not affect users who install this package by using Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center.

Issue workaround
An unattended installation fails because the package is trying to set ACLs on a directory (%windir%/prefetch) that does not exist. If you must install this package in an offline image, you can create this folder manually before the package is installed. For example, create a C:/Windows/prefetch folder before you install the package in the image.
Try to install both updates manually:

Here is a discussion regarding KB936181 with some possible solutions:

Update KB936181 fails to install.

Lastly make google your friend and search these issues up if my post provides no help to you.
