Dock II, R Series, and DVI
Dock II, R Series, and DVI
I like the Thinkpad R series for many reasons, value, durability, reliability, features, upgrade ability, etc. One of the things that has prevented me from keeping one as a personal machine is no DVI port, no DVI passthru to a dock either. I live on an external LCD while home, and I always use a dock. Recently I got a Dock II (full dock), and it has a PCI slot in it. So I read in the Thinkwiki that there are some low profile video cards that work in it, like the VisionTek X1550 256 MB PCI. I am not a gamer, and I did read the following warning which seems to be pointed towards gamers - "the performance of the PCI graphics accelerator will be poor because of the limitations of the interface.". Not an issue for me, so I am thinking about getting one of these cards. Has anyone run a dock II with an R series and a PCI video card using it's DVI port? Your experiences? No need to remind me the Dock II is noisy, I have ears
Help me find a good solution and an excuse for getting another Thinkpad
