The new lcd came as an assembly with covers and cable?

Yes it was a complete lid and it does the exact same thing as the one I replaced.

Unless both the original and replacement inverters were shot, then I'd suspect the Sub Card or the motherboard.

Here's one:

Read the description of that auction and check the lid switch on your existing card.

I might be willing to part out / sell my spare 600X.

Bad keyboard and trackpoint, but the rest seems OK electrically except for the brightness slider. The tab is broken off the inside of the slider bar (not the variable resistor) so it doesn't change the brightness. You can slip a screwdriver into the seam and move/change the brightness just fine.
Cosmetically, it stinks, but the wrist rest is OK!

When you reassembled the 600X, did you make sure that the LCD lid switch wasn't stuck? I have had problems with that in the past, and almost always forget to check it.

Sorry I didn't post sooner, but this problem has been resolved...it was the sub board and then it was the mini pci card causing the no boot.
thanks everyone.
