Quick AC Adapter question.

#1 Post by tylerwylie » Sat Mar 01, 2008 9:41 pm

I'm about to purchase a second AC adapter for the thinkpad in my specs. One to leave at work in my docking station, and keep one with me. The dfiferences between the 90w and 65w do not really matter on a Thinkpad with the Integrated GPU correct? Would you buy direct from Lenovo or for the part number via Ebay? Are there any 3rd party fakes I should look for?

I searched the first couple pages and couldn't find all the answers to these questions.

Look for the FRU on EBay ...something like this one. The FRU is 93P5026. Also look for the same markings as the auction directly below, with the words OEM or original product.

90W AC Adapter

This one is a generic knock-off..stay far away

Thanks, would you recommend going through EBay or Lenovo to get one?

93P5026 is $21.06 at Lenovo...I'd shop there.

Lenovo, if you are worried about any type of guarantee or warranty. eBay, if you are worried about cost. Not that eBay sellers won't handle any future problems, but there you're counting on them to be still around.

If you use the power adapter which you now have for your docking station, you could use the one you're going to buy to keep with you. In that case, a 65 W model would be sufficient, it's lighter than the 90 W model. The part number is 40Y7696 and it comes with a line cord. At lenovo's website it's $ 29.25.

Hi

will the 65w work with a T61P (dedicated graphics)?

I read something on an ebay auction saying the 65w adapters were for T60's (not T61's) with integrated graphics only.
-Toshiba Satellite (Sold)
-Dell 640M (Sold)
-T30 (retired)
-T61P 14"; 160 7200rpm, 3GB ram, T8300, XP Pro

It will work but not something any sensible individual would buy for a (power) demanding machine such as thinkpad T61p.

There was a good long thread on this topic not so long ago, I suggest you search the forum.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
