Has .biz become as reputable as a .com web address?

I'm trying to get a domain website for my company. The .com form is taken, but the .biz is available. Still debating if the .biz is taken seriously as .com...

Things have a way of changing, but my earlier experience with .biz is that is was a domain for shysters, deceitful business people and outright scammers and thieves. Nothing I have ever done in the way of Internet business has had a .biz domain. No purchases, no information, no finances, no institutions, no news. I would be very careful if I were in your shoes. ... JDH

you can also check if .US or .INFO are available.
Not as good as .COM, but indeed a lot better than .BIZ

Depending on what services your company offers, the .net top level domain might be an option.

Whats a good web hosting service? I was looking at godaddy.com and '1and1.com'

My .com domain is hosted by 1and1; the .net domain is still at Freewebs. I highly recommend 1and1. For me it's been reliable, cheap and easy to maintain.

I use www.hostm.com
5 domains in 1 account, with 800GB storage and 8,000GB traffic per month, all for less than $100.- per year!
They support everything (bar .ASP I think) and the support desk is superb.

Yea i think im going to go with 1and1, but the marketing for godaddy.com is much better!

GoDaddy is a fine domain name registrar (I use them), but their hosting is not the best (I don't use their hosting).

I switched to NetFronts for my bicycle club a bit over a year ago, and have been pleased. The cost is reasonable and the uptime, while not perfect, is way up there. On the rare times I've needed to deal with them with a question or a problem, they have been quite responsive. In retrospect, it's been a fine choice.

I don't believe that I've ever had to contact their tech support on any issues. As far as I know, my kawakami-ca.com site has been available 24/7. At least it has whenever I try accessing any page with a browser or FTP files. I'm on the Home Package plan which is $5/month for two domains, 1200 mailboxes, 120GB of storage and 1200GB of transfer volume per month. 1and1 may be offering a better (or cheaper) deal based upon the muti-page ads I've been seeing, but not really reading, in PC Magazine.

Not from any experience of mine. None of their packages meet my very humble needs. I've heard stories about poor customer service regarding hosting. Since they are so large, they can be very inflexible for small accounts... again, so I hear.

Before I changed over to HostM, I used to have my websites hosted at Godaddy as well.
I did not like the admin interface, and Godaddy is too cumbersome to navigate efficiently. I now only use them as a (very good BTW) registrar.
Before Godaddy, I also used Registerfly, but they seem to have gone belly-up.

I have read about GoDaddy cencoring websites in the past; here is one more proof to it:

RateMyCop.com -- a site where the general public can comment on police officers -- has been shut down by its hosting company, GoDaddy. The company claims his site had been engaged in "suspicious activity." Various police departments and organizations have spoken out against RateMyCop, arguing that it would reveal the identities of undercovers (undercovers are not listed on RateMyCop) or put police in danger by revealing their addresses and personal information (personal information and addresses are not given on RateMyCop), or that it would be used to grind axes against cops (RateMyCop has a facility for police rebuttal).

Unfortunately for the startup, the company it chose for hosting is known to be quick to censor its customers. In January of last year, GoDaddy took down entire computer security website -- delisting it from DNS -- to get a single, archived mailing list post off the web.

On that occasion, at least, it gave the site's owner 60 seconds notice. GoDaddy notified Seto by posting its "Oops!" message to his public website.

"You put on my website for me to call you, when you have my phone number?," says Sesto

I had my domains on Godaddy, but as soon as I read about GoDaddy censorship, about year ago; I moved my Domain registrar to 1&1; I do host it elsewhere.
