Help with BSOD on x60 when plugging in usb drive
Maybe you guys can help me out. I tried to look for the answers on google and here but could not find it. Recently, I just bought a Targus external usb cd-rw/dvd drive. It has been working great until I get BSOD each time I plug in the usb. The past week it has been working flawlessly. I dont think I have really done anything different to my x60. I was wondering if anyone has any similar experience or solution.
My system specs are
1.6 C2D
3gb memory ram
100gb 7200rpm

Cdrw works fine, now partitions
Ok, I've went ahead and reinstalled windows vista and the usb cdrw works fine now. It might have been something I've done, Im pretty sure.
Another issue you guys can probally help me out on. I went ahead and tried to save some disk space and delete my partition. Now there is 6gb of unallocated space. I have tried to do research on merging it with my current partition c drive. It wont let me and third party software will cost me. Is there anyway I can do it.

Download and burn gparted onto a CD. Boot it up and it should have no problem deleting or merging a partition. It's free. If it works, thank the Linux community

I have no idea what was deleted, but if it was the MBR of your drive then yes you need a Vista DVD to fix it, or reinstall Vista and start over. If you reinstall using the factory CD's or a backup of them, you will recreate the Recovery partition. Now with that said, someone is going to come up with a way to restore a Vista MBR without a Vista DVD, so stay tuned and don't be surprised
