How to access pre desktop area?

#1 Post by dmccart » Sun Mar 02, 2008 5:17 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to locate the pre desktop area on my brothers laptop. It is a T43p. I have a T42. I have looked at the documentation and it should appear when I press the access ibm button at boot but all I get is the bios config page where I can set the security level of the pre desktop area but can't lauch it. (I also tried F11 and return at boot but these give the same result as the access ibm buttons).

Am I doing something wrong? If I understand correctly here my brother can check to see if his system is working correctly. Does anyone know where you can find documentation to this feature? Is it possible to restore the system to factory new from the hidden partition through this tool?
Thanks,
denis

First ensure that the Access IBM Predesktop Area security level is set to Normal in the BIOS if still no go with Access IBM or F11 key leading you into the predesktop area then perhaps the boot sector is corrupt that can be repaired through the following package provided the original HPA is still intact:

Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette.
