t23 ultrabay drive stuck

#1 Post by demonslayer956 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 6:38 pm

i have two t23's but one is broken, the broken one has a dvd rom drive and my working one has a floppy drive (useless to me). i wanted to change the floppy to the dvd drive and i cant becuase the little switch that ejects the drive out of the ultrabay doesnt do anything. i tried poking around with a paperclip and it wont budge. any suggestions? i would rather not destroy the laptop itself i just want the drive out :banghead:

Have you checked on the bottom of the system, just underneath the lever that is supposed to pop out, for the security screw? If that's not the problem, then you can take a small screwdriver and insert it straight into the opening of the Ultrabay, just to the left of the lever, like here:

You want to press that plastic latch inside the Ultrabay towards the back of the system. You might notice in the pictures that this particular system has a missing release tab. I just had to do this last night and again when you asked your question. Good timing!

Actually, now that I think of it, there could be another problem hanging things up.... If there is no security screw and you just can't seem to make the latch inside the Ultrabay budge, then look inside the security screw hole and see if the threaded brass insert has been knocked off of the plastic arm. I had a problem with a T1 system like that before:
