I just bought a X23 laptop for my fiancee. The hardware technology curve greatly outpaces software requrements (unless you are into gaming). These old laptops have a classy, no frills look along with a durable chassis.

The X23 I got her has 640MB ram, 866mhz P3, WiFi, and runs XP, Office, and Internet Explorer without a hitch. It's smaller than her textbooks and fits in her backpack nicely. She can type a paper, watch/listen to music videos on YouTube, and IM with friends all at the same time. It's all she needs, and not bad for $200 bucks.

Why no love for poor X40 around here? My machine's screen has no pressure marks whatsoever.

Also, I had both X31 and X40 and I like X40 so much better. It's small, light and cozy. Sure, it's not as fast but with a cf conversion and 1.5GB of RAM it's no slouch and quiet to boot.

I chose the X40 to keep and sold off the X31. Definitely not sorry about that so far.

I also had one of these models, with internal wifi, too. This is one of IBM's best configurations ever - fast, light, cool running, good looking and rare.

Well worth the money.

My X40 is lighter, but it's probably not much faster (of course it has USB 2.0, B/G wifi and an SD card slot...) I love my X40!

And the current sale that BobA is conducting in the forum's Marketplace section shows that demand for X31/X32 units with good specs and in prime condition has not slowed down one bit...
