Non-IBM replacement battery "critical" after updat

#1 Post by Dan The Man » Fri Dec 03, 2004 8:43 am

After upgrading the Embedded Controller Program of my ThinkPad non-IBM batteries get rejected.

This article describes the problem http://illuminati.stderr.org/pipermail/ ... 12775.html
The advise was to downgrade the ECP again.
I tried to downgrade. But the diskette utility refuses to work, because there it fails to detect a fully charged primary battery. How to work-around this, other than by using an IBM battery? BTW: Having an IBM secondary battery did not help.

I am using the ThinkPad Model 2652 D5G. The label on the bottom calls it A30. But IBM's driver download site identifies it as A31.

BIOS: 1.08 - 1GET36WW
Embedded Controller Program: Updated to 1.03 - 1GHT16WW from 1.00 - 1GHT13WW

ECP 1.03 contains also the Enhanced battery control, same as your ECP 1.06
From the release notes:

This release supports the following system:
- ThinkPad A31p 2653-Hxx/Jxx/Lxx/Nxx
- ThinkPad A31 2652-Axx/Bxx/Cxx/Dxx/Exx/Jxx/Kxx/Mxx, 2654-Cxx
... snip ...
<1.02 - 1GHT15WW>
-(Fix) Fixed the unexpected system restart during standby/resume
operation, caused by fault recognition of a non-existing
secondary battery.
-(New) Enhancement of the battery control.
1.03 - 1GHT16WW>
-(Fix) Fixed problems introduced by the previous release, 1.02 -
1GHT15WW.
- Password prompt appears twice even if the Power on
password and the Hard disk drive Password are identical.
- Fail to resume after suspend.

The replacement battery is from a company called 2-power.
