Few years ago I was ordering T40 from USA to Finland. Not exactly Germany and not exactly X61s but prices and rules should be similar within EU. Insured shipping with FedEX was to the best of my memory around 120 euro. FedEX also took care of getting package through the custom. They just called me from... lets call it FedEX custom and ask credit card number to charge 22% VAT from declared notebook price + shipping costs. Next day I got the package to my doorstep. VAT should be a bit smaller in Germany than in Finland, and shipping should be a bit cheaper but the overall procedure should be similar if you get it by FedEX. Remember that if you are unlucky to get dead on arrival unit your only option is the international warranty as return would be prohibitively expensive.

I just go my X61t from USA and bought on Ebay at Seller Ket-77 who provides factory sealed new units at a very good price.
it cost me 100USD for delivery (FEDEX) and yes, I had to pay customs. You can reduce the declaration value if you want to pay less customs fees, but it reduce automatically the insured value .... So at your own risks !
Last thing is that most of the seller in USA don't take Paypal for international buyer (because the address cannot be confirmed, so I had to make a direct wire transfer at my bank which cost me 45 Euros
