T23 - Windows XP CD won't boot
T23 - Windows XP CD won't boot
Hi, I wish to install Windows XP on my T23 but can't get around a big problem. The XP CD just doesn't boot. It runs across the "Press any key to boot from CD", shows the boot message for only 1 second than hangs with the HDD light on.
Exact model is 2647-4JU.
Here's what I did so far:
- XP CD is OEM and is good: it boots wonderfully on 2 other machines
- T23 BIOS is up to date with version 1.20
- T23 HDD is good: it is currently loaded with Ubuntu and runs flawlessly.
- Other CD's such as W2K boots correctly on the T23.
This tells me there is a bad driver on the XP CD the T23 doesn't like. However, it doesn't even come up to the blue screen saying it loads all the drivers. Does anyone know what's wrong.
Thanks
Eric

T23 - Windows XP CD won't boot
Additionally, Ultimate Boot CD for Win doesn't boot neither. It's boot image is made of Windows XP one. So it sounds logical none of WinXP nor UBCD4Win boots.
Now, what's in this boot image the T23 hates that much?

Sure that it's seeing a MBR on the HDD? Not if your using linux it isn't.
You'll have to format the drive first, install XP then Linux.
Try removing the Mini-PCI and CDC cards, that usually helps too. Sometimes they act up.

R50/52, X20/21/23/24, T23/42/43, 240X, 570, 570E, 770X, 4 760's. + MAC's & SUN's
I thought about the boot record... Just didn't want to format everything if it isn't related. FYI, there is no MBR on this machine since it is solely runing Linux. The only thing that can bother is a Linux boot record then. What I ultimately want to do is to get rid of Linux and put XP instead. I'll give it a try and let you know...
Thanks
