Vista SP1 and Rescue & Recovery Issue

#1 Post by turkington » Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:39 pm

After installing Vista SP1 release code on a machine with Rescue & Recovery 4.20.512, boot-time chkdsk and Diskeepr do not function and complain "unable to open volume for direct access".

I have confirmed this on two seperate machines: T60 with Vista 32 Business and a T61 with Vista 32 Ultimate OEM preload from Lenovo.

Installing the R&R SP1 patch does not resolve the issue, removing R&R does... I have also confirmed this is the case on a fresh install with the recovery CD. Lenovo/IBM have no answers so far...

Anyone else experience this?

I got the same issue. Uninstalling RnR does solve the problem on system without SP1. You are then can reinstall RnR to get the system function again.

With sP1, it actually crash my machine. Somehow it destroyed my BOOTMGR. "BOOTMGR not found".

Under SP1, it renders my computer useless.

I assume both of you installed sp1 with the standalone update, and not though windows update?

I installed SP1 today, and both chkdsk and diskeeper are working fine for me.

Installing the stand alone version is risky. Everthing I have read says don't do it...use the update version. My desktop updated fine. My Z61t will not auto update and there is no solution yet. There was a comment about Intel but did not explain if it is video or what. I think I will just wait. for now. The Lenovo update site wants to install a Vista update but it fails. It did update my BIOS last night but still no SP1 download yet. Anyone else have the same problems?
