For Trade or possible sale...t42
For Trade or possible sale...t42
Hi, I have a T42 which I am interested in trading or selling, however, I don't really know what would be a fair price to ask.....
It's a T42
ATI 9600 6400, 1 gig of ram (2 sticks 512}SXGA+ Screen (1400+1050) I believe, which is a month old, as it was replaced by ibm, wireless, bluetooth, and it's in good shape, 60 gig harddrive, 7200 rpm, cdrw/dvd, anyways, it is in very good shape with no much wear on keyboard, battery is last about 1 hour, but I recently purchased one from a friend who tells me it picks up a full charge..no warranty but I'm sure you would like it it's nice, it hasn't been abused and always been handled with two hands.
I know that I am new here, and so I am willing to send laptop first to moderator or trusted member and then once you receive it, send the trade in or payment..like I said, I know that this is my first post but I honestly didn't know about this wonderful thinkpad community...
Ok, what I was looking for is something with a flexview sxga+(I guess I can always try to spare some cash too if needed) if possible or if someone is interested let me know what a fair price would be....
I live in Ottawa, ontario, canada and my name is Rolando...
Thanks!!
Like I said...weird that this is my first post, but after reading about the flexviews, I would like to try one, but I can't afford two laptops...
Please if someone would be able to post their input that would be greatly appreciated

Hi there...we're here to help...
...I'll offer you $11 Canadian...
Now seriously, here's a couple of things that we would know to properly establish the value of your ThinkPad:
a) 7-character model number
b) warranty info
c) links to some pictures would be helpful...
d) any references that you may have would also be a good thing (eBay, heatware, whatever...)
Depending on aforementioned details, you're probably somewhere in $375-$450 range...
Let us know and we'll take it from there.

Was going to say everything George said......
But with the full model # people here may look up the system.
Also you may have a Flexview now.
Some T42's with SXGA+ are IPS(Flexview) screens.
Scroll down to the Flexview / IPS
And you will see under the SXGA+ that the T42 is listed.

Welcome to the forum, Rolando!
If you want to know the specifications for the T42 you have, simply go to www.ibm.com and enter your T42's "MT" (model and type number) in the search-field, in the upper right corner. The MT is printed on the label at the bottom of your T42... the model is a four-digit number (it is most likely either 2373, 2378 or 2379) and the "type" is a three-character code (numbers/letters); I have e.g. a T42 with MT = 2373-N1G. Then, search on IBM's site for your MT, and choose the very first hit - that's the main specifications for your T42. Now, if it is a 15" model, and if it is an SXGA+ model (1400x1050 pixels), its display is a FlexView/IPS. If it is anything else (15" XGA or whatever 14.1"), it is not FlexView.
Next, go to IBM/Lenovo's Warranty Lookup page and check your warranty status... you will find the serial number also at the label of the bottom. If you intend to sell your T42, people will want to know if the warranty has perhaps expired... so (please!) inform about if still being covered by warranty or not.
ThinkPad's were/are sold in many, many different configurations (different displays, harddisk size, CPU speed, GPU, WLAN interface etc. etc.), and a good bit of T42's are found in the so-called Personal Systems Reference, Lenovo ThinkPad Notebooks - 2005 to present - withdrawn, December 2007 - Version 332. Search there to see if your T42 is listed (and don't be sad if it's not!).
Best regards,
Johan
