How to maximize my battery?

#1 Post by redsi » Mon May 31, 2004 12:29 pm

I want to maximize my battery usage for my T40. i.e. Fully charged and use the notebook without plug in AC.
Normally, I get about 3 hrs life from the battery (just browsing the net, Wor doc). Is that normal? I did not install IBM Battery Utility as I think Windows Power Option is ok too? What do u think?

As far as I know, the less stuff you install on the notebook, the faster and smoother it runs.

BTW, I don't have extended bayyert, just regular battery comes with T40. Thanks

So are you saying it's better to install the IBM utility to let it takes over the battery/power management of the laptop than using Windows Power Options?

The IBM utility allows you to adjust some power scheme settings that the Windows utility does not (e.g. CPU speed, LCD brightness/refresh rate, and video color depth). You always have the option of hiding the IBM battery guage, but I find that it's very useful.

It's the same. IBM's Battery MaxiMiser modifies the Windows Power Schemes, so it doesn't really matter which one are you using, they offer you the same powere schemes. However, Battery MaxiMiser gives you more advanced setting options.

i see. Just to point out that even I am now not using the IBM Power Mangement, my laptop is running at lower speed (like ~600Mhz) , provided you change the Windows Power Schemes to "Laptop".
If I change it to Always On, it will fun in Full Speed (1.3G, in my case), no matter you are using battery or AC Adaptor.

You can check it using CPU-Z

Sounds like I don't need the Power Management Utility from IBM :)

You can click once on the green battery icon next to the system tray to view a menu with power settings and an option to change run a Wizard to select the options you want.

If you don't have Battery Maximiser installed, go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PAD-MATRIX, look up the T42 driver matrix, and dowload it there.
