Anybody have experience with Asus G1S Gaming laptop?

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Fri Mar 07, 2008 7:20 pm

My nephew is looking for a 'gaming' laptop.
I've narrowed the choice down to this Asus G1S laptop.
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?model ... =523&l4=22

T7500 2.2GHz, 15.4" WSXGA+ 1680X1050, nVidia 8600GT 256MB.
Price: new ca. $1500-1600.-

Which models are better for this: A1, B1, B2, X1, X2, other?
Anyone have experience with this one?

Is there a comparable TP available? (not any Lenovo 3000 or Y-series)

The T61p starts at 1000, so it might actually be a better deal. Choosing all the nice options like a 2.4ghz T8300 cpu and 256M GPU comes out to a little over 1400. The T61p has nVidia 570M graphics, which is the same chip as the 8600.

I think Asus is going to upgrade G1S to Penryn..it should not be too long. In the meanwhile, take a look at this:

It's not very expensive but still quite powerful. Should be on par with 8600GT DDR2. Then again, I'd still wait for the new version of G1S for serious gaming..
