x40 won't power on battery

#1 Post by madcow » Sun Mar 09, 2008 1:12 pm

The laptop won't power on battery. It will only power if it's connected to AC power. The laptop shows that the battery is 97% charged. This is a used laptop I bought. When i first received it, it powers on battery. After some hours of use, it no longer boots on battery. It was charging before. Now it won't boot, it won't charge.. battery stays fixed at 97%.

Is your battery a Genuine IBM battery? Some batteries made in China work poorly. Do you have access to a new battery or one that is known to be good...might try that. Also, remove the battery and reinstall...does it work the same?

It is either the battery or the X40...sorry.

Thanks for the reply.

It has the IBM logo on it.

I don't have another battery. The seller is sending one to me. I wont' be getting it until Monday. I hope it is not the laptop.

I got a second battery from the seller. It powers on this second battery. Something must be wrong with the first battery.

Live with the second battery for a few days to see if it holds a charge. Also check the battery to see how many cycles are on it and the remaining capacity. You want one that reads "green". You will find all this under "battery information" in the "Power Manager" program.

Sounds like you solved your problem.
