Watching Star Trek online, Legally, and for free
It seems that CBS has a website that will let you watch Star Trek episodes for free.
http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/video/video.php
Unfortunately, I have not been able to get this to work. I get an auditory message "The content is not available".
Does the same thing happen for other people? I live in Canada, and I'm wondering if it's available to US residents only. If that is the case, does anyone know a method to use it anyway (I'm thinking some kind of redirect server that would read the IP address of the local US server instead of my Canadian IP address.

It very much has to do with you being in Canada. AFAIK all the legal TV online sites shut out people in other countries.

It does not work on the T23 I'm currently using but I think it's because I've blocked ad.doubleclick.net in my hosts file.
I was initially trying to figure out why CBS has hosted this... Series was originally on NBC but was produced by Desilu, which was then sold off to Paramount... which is owned by CBS.... ah!

hmmmm
Don't have anything intelligent to add, except to say that seems a bit unsporting. After all, wasn't the guy who played Scotty actually a Canadian?

I see why these are online. They are the original "non-enhanced" versions unlike the ones currently airing on weekends and being released on DVD.

I prefer the classic TOS. Remastered TOS is just an effort to a) introduce the series to a new generation that would have dismissed it as "old" if it wasn't so flashy, b) Market "The Mega Ultra, Special-edition DVD Limited Edition, etc." to squeeze a few extra $$ out, c) be a good marketing tool for Star Trek XI, which won't be released until sometime in the first half of 2009 (it was supposed to be Christmas 2008, but I suspect that the DVDs of TOS Remastered won't be finished until 2009)
Anyway, can anyone refer me to a good proxy server? One that can allow for flash to be viewed? I tried a few, but the only one that actually loaded flash content gave me the message "This content is currently unavailable"

Out of interest, can others in other countries see the BBC programmes online at bbc.co.uk/iplayer
BBC's explanation
Ditto for the OP question, Canadian IP addresses are blocked (pity too, I have not seen the original Star Trek for quite some time).

Very sly, those devils at CBS!
Each episode is divided into clips, and they insert commercials between them. To get the next clip, you have to watch the commercial!
Still, they have a rather impressive collection online besides just Star Trek.

Common sense to some of us is unfortunately the higher education others strive to attain.

Thanks for the heads up iamdmc. I am also a big fan of the original twilight zone series (also posted on CBS website). I hope to see more of the classic shows return!
