restore questions
I'm having a few problems and am considering a restore:
Super pi has gone from 30.5 sec to 57 sec;
I keep getting a small popup window on my desktop with things like "OEM error - path 4", or "Error 4 - contact your vendor"; with no apps running, I don't know what vendor;
As of March 1st my GPS post-processing prog cannot synchronise GPS logs from two stations. Still processes logged data up to Feb 29. The recent files process fine on another computer;
But, now I'm confused about what route. I have apps on C and data on E partition. I can transfer and save the E data. I made the set of recovery disks when the R60 was 6 months old. How do I use them? Does the system restore option in Thinkvantage access those or the R drive?
Lastly, does the blue button only work during bootup, or should it do something when the unit is running? Mine doesn't do anything after it has booted.
Thanks for any tips on how to proceed.

This is a sticky that will guide through the restore process - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=52133
R50/52, X20/21/23/24, T23/42/43, 240X, 570, 570E, 770X, 4 760's. + MAC's & SUN's
Many thanks for the link - I had been searching only the R forum.
Still a bit scary though but these OEM Error windows keep popping up with np applications running and I haven't found any information that helps identify the source.
Cheers.

Thanks for the tip - it seemed to point to an issue with Avast. I re-installed that and haven't seen the pop-ups all day. Fingers crossed that that is the end of it. I really don't want to do a full restore but still concerned why supr-pi has doubled in time and the blue button doesn't work after booting.
Cheers

Any updates (March 1) to the OS, security updates, device driver updates and what not? I would track back in the event log to the time when you first started having the slow-down.
Another indicator of slow-downs is with Task Manager (Right click on Taskbar), look at the running processes (check "Show processes from all users.") and see what's hogging all of the memory/processor percentage. It won't be clear as to what program but it might again give you a clue as to which program is stepping on Super-pi and the GPS post-processing. If you find an app hogging more than you think proper right click "End Process" and see what happens.

I've looked at the Windows update log and can't see that any were downloaded on Feb 29 or March 1. So still no explanation for the GPS application to suddenly stop processing any data logged after that date.
Re the super pi slowdown, I hadn't used it for months so no precise idea of when any changes occurred. With no apps running the task manager shows system idle at 99 which I assume is fine.
I have to stop looking for a few days but will get back to it later in the week
Thanks again for the tips.
