Access Connection and XP 16 bit subsystem

#1 Post by emts » Mon Mar 10, 2008 4:05 pm

Hello,

I have an old 16 bit type application and it worked well a year ago on my Thinkpad R51E. I applied all of the Lenovo and MS patches and found recently that my old app does not start... when I am double clicking on the icon then the wowexec and the ntvdm.exe (16 bit subsystem) starts and the exe of the 16 app also appear in task manager but nothing happen (no error, no warning and I need to terminate the app from task manager because it does not appear on the screen)....

this particular app tries to check the network (it is able to run from a shared network drive)... other 16 bit apps are OK on my computer...

Finally I figured out that AcSvc.exe blocks the app. When I kill AcSvc.exe from task manager then the 16 bit app starts immediately...

another solution... I stopped the service of the AcSvc.exe then started the 16 bit app... then nothing happened again.... then started!!!! the AcSvc service and the 16 bit program started immediately

I tried to play with AcSvc settings but none of them helped... do you have any clue or idea why AcSvc behaves on this way?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

emts

Check the Additional settings in any given profile for Access Connections. It wants to enable the Windows firewall and block file sharing by default. I uncheck these things instintively, but you might want to check them to see if that is your problem. ... JDH
