Deals gone...Umm...weird?

#1 Post by joester » Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:55 pm

With as many transactions and swapping of equipment going on, it seems that there must be deals that just go wonky for no good reason, and at neither the seller or buyers' fault.

Knowing of a doozy in the works, I wonder....

Who else has had a weird deal that worked out in the end?

I while ago I sold Mike (Kyocera) a 600E, and shipped that and another box (with an LCD I believe) via USPS Priority mail. The first one arrived after a week, but the one with the 600E was nowhere to be found.

I told Mike that I would refund half the cost of the 600E, since I felt bad...Being the nice fellow that he is, he refused that offer.

Luckily, it arrived after over two weeks. Priority mail is a joke.

On an unrelated Priority mail note- Mailed something to CA two weeks prior and they didn't receive it. I sent another one, Saturday, and it arrived 2 days later, WITH the one I had sent weeks before. AHHH!!!

I've found Priority Mail to be very reliable for small packages and the flat-rate boxes. For bigger items, it sometimes takes much longer, e.g. I mailed a huge (though fairly light at ~15 lbs) package from Providence RI to New York City NY several months ago and it took 10 days, even though it was a very short distance.

I'm always so abrasive with my comments, aren't I?

I mail a ton of priority mail. Both sizes of priority envelopes seem to get to their destination quickly, but even the small priority boxes have a habit of getting lost in transit. Maybe drivers use the bigger ones as door stops, booster seats, etc.?

Sorry if it's a little off topic:

After I had come back to France from my Hong Kong trip last summer, I mailed my mom a post card with some HK dollar in the same envelope. The post card arrived a week's later but never did the money. According to my mom, the envelope hadn't been opened then resealed.. spooky isn't it?

Maybe slightly OT, but...

I've recently sent someone a R50p instead of T42p, but the gentleman in question was very understanding...this is what happens when you have too many 15" machines with 9-cell batteries in the identical cases in your closet...

Once again, many kudos to our fellow forum member Mark ( xaos) for being one heck of a nice guy throughout this charade...

Well Joe, when I sent you a money order for two hard drives and it was returned by the Federal Bureau of Prisons I have to say, I thought "This is a deal gone weird"

I didn't quite know what to make of it, but Joe seemed like a nice enough guy so I sent him the following PM

Hi Joe, Just received my money order back today. It was returned by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. They say it is because the inmate's committed name and/or eight-digit register number are missing.

They say the instrument may be resent once corrections have been made (insert joke here)

I don't need the drives yesterday, and it would seem that you have some time on your hands, so perhaps we can work through this.

Let me know, Tom

Can't blame you on that. It all worked out in the end, and Tom is a great person to deal with.

My favorite part of this was the following e-mail to Tom:
Good news!

Working next door to the Tioga County Corrections Facility paid off. Today they hand delivered the MO rather than return it to you.

Bad thing is, they know how to find me....a little to swiftly for my liking.

Anyhow, I'll be sending you a CLEARLY LABELED package tomorrow.

Joe

Followed by Tom's response:
HUZZA! but I forgot what is going to be in the package.

Seriously though Joe, did it really go to another jailhouse? Or did it come to your house, as it should have, delivered by a mailman? (mailperson)? Tom

...now I'm trying to figure out why the local police keep driving by the house real slow...
