Improving performance! Help Needed!

#1 Post by arion » Sat Dec 04, 2004 3:26 pm

There are a lot of tasks and application that run in the background under Windows XP using the IBM ThinkPad T series images.

What should and should not be turned off ?

Where can I find info on what they all do ?

Thanks.

Here's a good place to start but it's not specific to any TP:

Windows XP Home and Professional Service Pack 2 Service Configurations by Black Viper

XP Pro SP3

I let most of the IBM tools run. They range from decent to excellent (Access Connections). I set the following:

1. All of them except Access Connections not to show up in the system tray or taskbar.
2. IBM Message Centre specifically - download the newest version. It has a setting not to run. I don't run it except as I wish to.

If the system is working properly with all IBM and Windows updates in place, your ThinkPad should run at idle at zero CPU.

BMMLREF.exe
