XP verification

#1 Post by tony6264 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 6:14 pm

I have a Dell laptop and everytime I need to reload XP, Ieverything goes fine until about a month after and then it starts wanting to verify the authentication....then it will not accept the lic key on the bottom of the unit.....so then I need to wait 2 hours on hold to talk to Abdul, only to find out that he cannot help.
So my question is, is there any way to turn off whatever sends out the verification requests?

Are you using the OEM version that came with the machine? If so you should call dell and talk to them.

No actually, mine got scratched and I bought one off of a guy on craigslist that is the same CD...it says it is for installation on Dell only computer and everything installs fine...but then I start getiing prompted to validate it and when I try it says the lic key is invalid.
It does this everytime...and then I have to call Dell in probably India and wait on hold forever and then I have to fight with them to convince them it is not a pirated CD....eventually, they ok things, but I am just getting tired of the hassles and was wondering if there is a way to turn that off.
