Trackpoint problems after driver update (X60s)
Due to problems with WLAN and Video, I applied a complete software update to my X60s (1704-5UG) using the Lenovo Software Updater. The old software/drivers where dated about Oct 2006. It took just a while, but in the end, every component updated successfully. Fortunately the problems with WLAN and Video seem to be gone. Unfortunately, I have problems with the Trackpoint now.
As far as I can see it, the update installed driver v4.63 which seems to be the current one. But using this, I can't scroll using the middle button (not in Explorer Windows, only in Apps like Word, where you have the "windows-style-scrolling" with the white circle on the screen...). What I want, is the line-by-line scrolling I had before.
Additionally, it is not possible to open the "Mouse" option in the Control Panel. But if I try to and want to shut down the system afterwards, I get an error, that a process "tp4..." is blocking the system. If I force to stop that process, the "Mouse" window opens for a second and Windows is shutting down.
I tried to install, the v3.55 driver, which did not work either. In the end, I installed an IBM driver dated 2001. This driver gives me control over the Trackpoint options and line-by-line scrolling, but it has other problems (for example scrolling in thunderbird does not work!).
Is there any known incompatibility with the driver? Is there any known workaround or another driver I could use? I think it is not the best solution to use a 7 years old driver.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Tim

I have installed the latest Lenovo driver again (v4.63).
What I can tell so far is, that everything is about two files: tp4serv and tp4servinst (both in program files\lenovo\TrackPoint). If I kill them both and start them again (in the right order), everything works fine. The problem is, after rebooting windows, it does not work any longer.
tp4servinst is started as windows service whereas tp4serv is started in the run section of windows\currentVersion in the registry. Nothing I tried helped to get everything started in the right order and working. I always have to kill them first and restart them.
Any ideas? Maybe any of you with an X60s can check, if he has the same service (tp4servinst) started and the same run statement (tp4serv) in his registry.
Thx

That's how it is on mine, and it's working fine.tim-kiefer wrote:Any ideas? Maybe any of you with an X60s can check, if he has the same service (tp4servinst) started and the same run statement (tp4serv) in his registry.
Do you have any other mouse drivers on your system that might be confusing it? I've had the driver for a Logitech external mouse and the driver for a touchpad battle it out on another computer.
