Memory use in T61p with XP SP2 and 2GB memory
I am frequently getting out of memory errors in Outlook 2007/Outlook Express and see my PF up to nearly 1.3GB in Task Manager. Are the thinkpad extras really that big of memory hogs (fingerprint reader, thinkadvantage, etc.)?
I do have a lot of things open, but it is annoying to have to reboot all of the time. Any suggestions would be appreciated

1.3 GB memory usage in XP is quite a lot. What else do you run in the same time? Besides that, even with 1.3GB of memory usage you still have about 0.7GB memory left. Maybe you should also check for spyware, viruses or rootkits.

I run Office 2007 (Word, Excel), ACT!, Yahoo Messenger and have a few browsers open (along with Outlook and Outlook Express 6). Sometimes there are 10 or 15 items active in my last computer had 1.0 GB of memory and I ran the same mix of apps and rarely got an out of memory notice (always in Outlook or Outlook Express).
I have done all the usuall things, run Ad-Aware, have Symantec Internet Security and MS Messenger and have not found any evidence of viruses or malware. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

I recall reading problems like this elsewhere. Most of the systems exhibiting the "out of memory" errors were running Office 2007 on systems with 2GB of RAM (I believe Windows Vista was cited, but you report you are running Windows XP). I can't reproduce the problems with any of my Windows XP or Windows Vista systems with Office 2007, but I don't use Outlook - which might be key in this case. I have suspicion that this isn't confined to Thinkpads.
