New HDD in T40?

#1 Post by loukilouk » Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:12 pm

My first post and my first problem.
I have one ThinkPad T40 2373-3G1, and from yesterday the hard drive not working anymore.
I can replace the old hard disk with one new like this: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=164 ?
The new disk can be working in T40 without I make cloning from the old hard disk?
Sorry for my bad English.
Regards

The disk will work.

You will need some way to put Windows on it, though. Do you have restore CDs?

I believe your problem is like this:
your old hard drive was broken and you're trying to replace it with new 120gb hard drive but wondering if you have to clone your old hard drive to the new one, correct?

If that so, you don't have to clone your old hard drive BUT you need to install operating system and all sort of stuff when you put your new hard drive in your T40. In fact, I just changed my laptop's hard drive :)

By the way, make sure you have some Operating system CD (XP or vista or anything) that is bootable....

hope that helps

also, I think you'll need a 1.8" hard drive for a thinkpad t4x...not 2.5"

T4 uses 2.5". It's the X4 that uses 1.8".
