will lenove discontinue 14.1 non-widescreen on T61/T61p

#1 Post by incvn03 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 12:30 am

I heard some people said that lenovo will discontinue t61/t61p with 14.1 non-wide screen or 14.1 SXGA+ on them . This activity explain for cutting down demand of 14.1 non-wide panel from consumer and almost LCD laptop producers have the cutting plan for 14.1 non-wide screen.

if i read what you wrote, right, its hard to say..

which came first..? chicken or egg..??
if makers don't actually MAKE many 14.1 inch sxga+ displays then sales will be down and..... well, you should get the idea, here..

it's impossible to say what will happen.   i personally believe there will be a day when 4:3 panels are no longer spec'd by OEMs.   exactly when that day comes is another question.

if you need a new T61/T61p with 14.1" SXGA+ panel today then buy it today.   if you can afford to wait then wait.   trying to predict the future, however, will drive you crazy.   like the T60p with 15" 4:3 IPS displays, these machines will always be available but will grow to be more rare over time.

We are ready to place order on the next batch of replacement PCs and will still go with the 14.1 non-wide screen. I think Thinkpad marketplace is different since it is not as driven by consumer users.

Hopefully, if enough users keep ordering them, they will continue to offer them. But perhaps there will not be enough demand. Glad I already got one, but it will be obsolete before long. I seem to need to upgrade to a new machine approximately every 2 years or so.
