t42 MB dead, how to retrieve data?

#1 Post by jacksonheights » Thu Mar 13, 2008 1:28 pm

my t42 has finally stopped booting up at all and I'm pretty sure it is the MB. All I have lying around is an old t20. Would it be possible to put my t42 HD into my t20, and use a knoppix boot disc to retrieve my data? or is there another solution?

You can use this.
X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100

thanks, I'll definitely order a HD enclosure if I cant do anything else, but I need to retrieve the data asap. I'm guessing no, but do they sell those at best buy or circuit city or any other major retailer?

Most places will sell these adapters, you should just call to see to save you a trip. On line pricing is better and you should be able to get one quickly if you pay for faster shipping. Should not be more than $20.00 per.

The other option is to get the second drive adapter for the T20, I have some spare adapters if you need one. It goes in place of the optical drive.

yes.

Dunno how you'd get the data off, as the T20 is (really slow) USB 1.1...
Unless it isn't a lot of data.

I you use the second HDD adapter, the speed will be at IDE speeds, so no slowing down. If the T20 already has an operating system that is compatible with the format of the T4x harddrive, then just boot the T20 with the T4x drive and just copy.

Knoppix will work also.
