What the heck is an "Estee Lauder X31" ???

#1 Post by aamsel » Sun Dec 05, 2004 4:07 am

The one that I still have, and am still considering is a model # 26735KU
and I have found several references to "Estee Lauder" for this model.

What does this mean, and is this better/worse than any other model X31, and what are the ramifications of "Estee Lauder" name being assigned to it ???

Please help, and advise!!

Thanks,

Andrew

aamsel

i've read some of your post around and had returned a thinkpad. What are you planning to get now? Have you played with an X31 yet? I'm planning to get an X31.

Cheers

Andrew,

I have absolutely no idea and have never heard the three words used together before!

Do you have a link to where you saw this? How was it used? Could it refer to used machines for sale ex the Estee Lauder company?

There are several threads in this forum talking about an IBM custom edition "Estee Lauder" and also a link in one of aamsel's other threads to the technical data.

I only know that this is a customised model but I would like to know more about this, too.

The only thing "custom" about most company branded IBM Thinkpads is the fact that they are often available at discount prices to employees of those companies.

You have to prove your employment status and purchase them from specific retailers in order to qualify for the discount.

The 26735KU is available directly from IBM as I noted in one of the other posts on this subject, nothing "special" about it.

Yes, James I did read your other reply.

I only asked mainly because ecost.com shows an incredibly low price for this unit online:
http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/sea ... ncimage=on

at $1,509.99, no tax $10 overnight.

However, they don't have stock on it, and I just saw this morning that their resellerratings.com rating has dropped HUGELY:
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1932.html

Really, really bad.

Anyhow, if I keep this, my SPP price was $1,879, I added the 3 year Thinkpad Protection for $152 + tax and shipping for a total of $2,245 delivered!!

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but...
I ordered this 26735KU unit because I did not want a media slice, and I wanted the Banias 1.7.
But isn't $2,245 delivered a LITTLE MUCH for 256MB of RAM (which I will upgrade), 40GB 4200rpm (which I will upgrade) and Wireless B (which I will upgrade) ???

Sorry, I just need some sort of "reality check" before I stay with this unit, and I NEED TO DECIDE TODAY!! I am happy with an X31 but this is a LOT of money.

Yes, I know X40's can be had for a lot less, but I don't want an X40.

What is the best overall deal out there on an X31 right now (excluding Bill's...sorry, but I HAVE to pay AMEX on this unit.) ?????

PLEASE post advice.

i have always wanted to do a bill morrow signature series thinkpad..
with a nice gold plaque and other embellishments..

just no time to do such things..

since estee lauder makes cosmetics it is, probably, as james says, a company provided unit or some such..
but coming from ecost is the one strange part of this whole deal..

unless estee lauder heard about the PC division sale and decided to dump all their thinkpads in favor of dell's..

Ford has an Eddie-Bauer Explorer, so why can't there be an Estee Lauder ThinkPad? :-)

i think the estee lauder thinkpad X31 is black..

but the thinkpads.com signature series thinkpad will have a gold feather plaque and some other enhancements.. :)
