X400

#1 Post by DarkMark » Fri Mar 14, 2008 8:43 am

Well, I was at my local IBM Businesspartner/ThinkPad Centre to collect a spare part today.

I than asked the technician who gave me the part if they already have the new X300 in so I could look at it and he said, he's afraid not but its coming soon and so is the X400.:shock:

I then asked him about it and he says it is definitly not the new T-series but still an X and it will come with 14" screen.
He also said he hasn't heard anything else about a smaller X or any new models from the R,T-series yet.

Has anyone else heard anything similar yet?

How anything could have a 14-inch screen (widescreen, I presume) and yet still be considered small enough to be an X-series model is beyond me.

I agree it would be too big, but it would still be light enough to be X-series. I bet it would be lighter than the X6* tablet, and perhaps even the X30/31/32.

Bring in the X70!!!

I dislike the X300. X400 sounds bigger. I prefer the Ultraportable Notebooks.

In general, I'm with iamdmc. Light weight is nice, but physical size is more critical, at least to me. Light weight doesn't do much good when it comes to fitting onto an airline tray table, or onto a restaurant table while you're grabbing lunch, or onto the nightstand by the bed, etc.

The X300 was a great move on Lenovo's part though. They needed something smaller than the T61, but still larger than the X models. I've not laid eyes on the X300 yet, but it strikes me as a potentially good travel machine, a niche that T series models historically seemed to cover well. Probably Lenovo should have called it the T300, but it's too late for that now.

To me the great strength of the X series has always been the small, physical size. I hope that continues. A very tiny 12-inch, or even 11-inch widescreen might be just the ticket.

If the x400 is real, then Lenovo is really starting to milk their brand names. Size for the X series should not exceed the current x300. If they want a better 14" Thinkpad, they should be working on improving the 14" T series.

I don't know, I'm loving the 12.1 right now!, I guess I would have to try out a 14in tablet...I guess as long as it was light enough!
X61 Tablet 7767....loving every moment of it

X300 -> X400: they only have to reduce the border around the screen :wink:

With all respect to the OP, I feel the information he has become is totally misleading. I have seen plans for the future "model series" (also posted in this forum here).
It doesn't make sense for them to build a 14" X-series as they will have the T and R-series as 14". I also could be wrong, but doubt it.

I hope that Lenovo is not going to completely confuse the series naming and gut the X-series name so that it becomes...

X=Thin and good battery (but not small anymore)
T=Performance
R=Desktop replacement

I like the X series the way it is, and I think Lenovo will lose a lot of support is they don't keep the X series small - or at least have the promoted option of a 12" LED backlit screen

I think they should do a T300 and a T400. The overlap can be at the 13.3'' form-factor. With extra weight and features for theTseries.
