question about R&R

#1 Post by jacksonheights » Fri Mar 14, 2008 9:43 am

Do the R&R discs perform the same function as the hidden partition that comes factory configured? If I have R&R discs, is there any reason to keep the hidden partition around?

Thanks.

When you use recovery disks, they wipe out your hard drive 1st to lay a new batch of hidden partition, OS, utilities and all required drivers.

On the other hand when you boot into hidden partition, it gives you numerous options like restoring your machine from a backup or restoring it to factory state, copying important data to external media, facility of using an internet browser, running an AntiVirus etc. etc.

If I were you, I would keep the hidden partition, that way I won't have to worry about carrying around recovery disks with me all the times on a trip for the fear of OS refusing to boot.

The following ad best expresses the value of hidden partition:

Virus
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
