R61 New with Linux - What can't I do that I could /Windows?
I'm really taking a major step here.
I'm assuming I will be able to do most everything with Linux SUSE as loaded by Lenovo on my 14" R61 that I could if it were pre-configured with Windows?
Am I right, wrong, sort of, sort of not?
Thanks.

Congratulations on getting such a good deal(CPP + USPTHRESHOLD I assume?) I've never used SUSE before and I am not a linux expert but I do know on linux you can do pretty much all the web surfing, office work by openoffice, and listening to music like the way you do on windows. However gaming and certain codec decoder(aka multimedia players) would probably require some tuning before they can be practical.
If you ever want to develop some linux use skills, I heard SUSE has a yast(now should be yast2) command that will help you manage your software.
I've been using linux (redhat, slackware, and now fedora) since 2000 and I have to say I learned a lot just by getting things to work on linux. But for people who just want things to work out of the box without having to spending time playing around, linux might not be the best choice.

I gave up on Suse, I have a r61e and use kanotix rc7, it is basically a debian distribution that uses etch4 for updates and programs. Kano
keeps this distro updated very well and has provided driver support
that keeps my thinkpad running smooth. I use winxp in a VirtualBox when I need specific software to run.
However I have not been able to configure my thinkpad reccovery software to use my USB-HD, there doesnt seem to be a setting that
allows me to set the drive letter to use, I am using 4.1 Thinkpad productivity center..

Its nice to be important, but more important to be nice.
