Ibm A21M problem

Hi,
I have a IBm A21M 2628-GTU, 800 MHz. When I power it on, I get 3beeps-3beeps-1beep. The unit stays on, fan works, shows all lights and the battery seems to be charging.
When I add ram, the unit turns on for about 5 seconds and then shuts down. I have to unplug the unit, remove the battery for it to start again.
I have tried 4 ram modules, (all tested good). Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

First off, Welcome to the forum!

Now...
Several things to clarify..
Is that 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps then 1 beep?
According to the Lenovo site, that would mean Bad RAM, followed by System board failure.
But don't give up yet.
What RAM are you using, and is it compatable with the laptop?
Just because the module fits, doesn't mean it will work in that particular laptop.

If an A21M is anything like the finicky T21, it requires low density (8 chips per side) PC100 RAM, no larger than 256MB.

Did you try both RAM slots? If yes, I'd say the system board is bad. Could be bad memory slots on the board as well.
