Price on 160 GB drive is less than 100 GB Drive?

#1 Post by Shelby Griggs » Sat Mar 15, 2008 2:54 pm

Can anyone explain why the ThinkPad 100 GB 7200 rpm Serial ATA Hard Drive costs $439 and the ThinkPad 160GB 7200 rpm Serial ATA Hard Drive costs $199? (Current prices from the Lenovo web site)

Why is the drive with 60% GREATER capacity less than 1/2 the price? I have started equipping my ThinkPads with an UltaBay hard drive for backups, BUT generally I don't think I need a 2nd drive bigger than the internal one, so have been buying the same size. I guess I can go bigger, for less money, it just seems odd? Maybe an error on the web site?

If it is a website error, you'd better order asap before they realize and hope they honor it. :)

I think you are right about the error, BUT I think the error is in the 100 GB drive price???

Yeah, the 160gb doesn't seem special to me.

Just FYI, you can buy the latest generation 7200 rpm 200 GB Hitachi hard drive at NewEgg.com or Zipzoomfly.com for a LOT less than what Lenovo charges for much smaller drives. Same wrt ram.
HP DV8t | Intel i7-Q 720 | 6GB (DDR3 1333) RAM | 1 TB (500GB Seagate 7200 rpm x2)| GeForce GT 230M (1GB) | 18.4" FHD | SuperMulti 8X w Lightscribe | FP Reader | Bluetooth | HDTV Tuner | Win 7 Ultimate x64. Backup: T61p (8891-CTO)

I figured there were cheaper hard drives, BUT I ordered a 160Gb 7200 RPM drive from Lenovo anyway with my new system (actually two drives of that type).

Sometimes it is just easier to order all from a single source BUT the heads up might be of value to others reading the thread! Thanks for the input.
