Will this Thinkpad feature be an added benefit to my Western Digital Scorpio which I think already has a feature call ShockGuard or is it redundant that wil end up confusing the system.
"Reliable and Rugged - WD's ShockGuard™ technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark™ parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non- operational shock tolerance. "

Thinkvantange Active Protection install question?
Feb 2008=Thinkpad X61s; 2x faster than X40 but not as asthetic.
Dec 2005=Thinkpad X40; perfect, but bigger than 240x.
Jan 2005=Thinkpad 240x; used; fast but dead pixels doomed it.
2003=Thinkpad 240; used,
1998=new Toshiba Tecra 740CDT. Pricey, heavy & last 5 year.

Not really, since APS is already protecting your drive so I don't think you would require the extra ShockGuard protection, also HDD's with integrated protection are more expensive than without, I would save money when I already have a mechanism (accelerometer) doing the job for me.red bioroid wrote:snip....Will this Thinkpad feature be an added benefit to my Western Digital Scorpio...snip

I mean I don't have APS installed, but my hard drive has Shockguard features already. Should I installed APS or not?

The APS' gyro-accelerometer is installed on the motherboard that only gets enabled once you install the APS drivers and the Shockguard drive protection is installed on the drive which I believe is enabled by default, I really don't know what will happen if you enable the both, all I can imagine is either it's going to give you an extra protecton or over protect the drive; in which case the latter might not be a good for your system.
You can play around with things to see how your thinkpad responds to both, in case of discrepancy keep the one that does the job better.
