FOUND!P4M CPU 2.4/2.5/2.6 for A31p upgrade

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:14 am

A good friend of mine who has recently bought an A31p from me is looking to upgrade the CPU on it...from my recollection and ancient notes, any of these should work...

SL6K5

SL6VC

SL6P2

SL6WY

SL6WZ

SL6LS

If you happen to know something I don't regarding this upgrade, do feel free to correct me.

PM with offers. Thank you.

George, just curious: What are the specs of your personal A31p? I imagine it's totally maxed out.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

You'd be disappointed...I had one totally maxed out with a 2.6 CPU and everything else, but it was running way too hot for my liking, so it grew legs...:D

My main rig is a standard 2653-R5U (2.0 CPU) with the following changes:

- new backlight by James (jamiphar). All I'm going to say is "WOW!"

- 2Gb PC2700 RAM

- 80Gb/7200 Seagate HDD

- Atheros (non-IBM) a/b/g wireless card

I have it set up as dual-boot running XP and Linux Mint (Daryna).

How much is he prepared to spend? I recall searching for my T30 upgrade and settling on the SL6VB 2.2 because there was such a steep price jump for anything faster.

Something worth noting (Which you're probably already aware of) is the fact that there is a big increase in running temp on higher clock speeds. I saw a 15-18 degree increase on average. BUT... I was the lazy guy that kept his original CPU fan from the 1.6 that the computer came with. I know there is a beefed up fan for TPs that shipped with the faster CPUs
Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.

I'm really not interested in getting a 2.2 because difference would be marginal...You can get a 2.4 on fleabay for around $50 or so, and they go way up for 2.6...

Rising temperature is an issue, and that's why I got rid of my 2.6, but if the man wants to try, it's his ThinkPad to fry...

BTW, for A31p there is no bigger fan than the one that is already in 2.0 machines...

I should've known better than to test the master's knowledge, heh.

Bump. Still looking, and I'd much rather spend money here than on fleabay.

The proper CPU has been found and paid for. This thread can be locked.
