X31 2672-FG9 : Is that possible to use 2 GB of RAM ?

#1 Post by WarMachine » Mon Mar 17, 2008 3:00 pm

Hello,

I've received my X31 last week, and that's a wonderful machine. :o

I read this forum a lot before buying it, and I saw that X31s can accept 2 GB of RAM. But IBM says some of them can only accept 1 GB.

Mine is a 2672, I'd like to put 2 GB. Do you think it's possible ?

- Corsair has 512 MB RAM for 2672 models :
http://www.corsair.com/configurator/sys ... x?id=35883

- Kingston shows 1 GB modules for 2672, except for 2672-Bxx, Cxx, Dxx, Exx, Jxx, Lxx (only 512 MB) :
http://minilien.com/?PVCovBXACt
http://minilien.com/?HW2HoqrZat

- Crucial has 1 GB modules, for 2672 series :
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts. ... %202672%29

I pretty sure 1 GB modules can be used on my system, but I would like a confirmation.

Thx in advance for your help ! :)

The only reason IBM says that 1Gb is the max is the fact that no 1Gb DIMMs were available when X31 was introduced.

I second Frank's opinion, throw in 2Gb and enjoy...but don't forget a nice 7200rpm HDD as well.

Hello,

That's what I've read often.

I'll go with 2 GB when I'll have the money.

For the HDD, it'll be difficult, but let's keep hope. (My 5400 rpm Samsung Spinpoint M5 is very nice).

Well, some news ! :)

I have ordered one Corsair VS512SDS400 for my laptop. 1 GB will be enough for the moment.

I have tried two of them used by a friend. I've tried the first one, then the second, then with my existing module (PC2100 Mosel Vitelic), then I have switched everything, and everything is perfectly compatible.

I should receive them on monday. :)

Yes, I'm sure you can put 1G*2 RAM in X31 2672. And it works good.

ThinkWiki also states that it is possible:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X31
256 or 512MB PC2100 or PC2700 memory standard (max 2GB)
Lenovo ThinkPad T410
