Annoying clicking sound on X61t with vista?

#1 Post by nikemen » Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:01 pm

So, this isn't a FAN sound, or HD sound, or CPU whine. What it is is like a confirmation click, thunk when actions are completed. Especially present when using IE and a page finished loading, or when I click on a link, you know the sound effect that IE makes when you click on a link,

But it comes and goes, and goes click on ACTIONS completing, very slight, nearly silent, but really annoying. anyone know what this is?

Does it also happens when the volume is set to mute?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Try doing the following:

go to Control Panel > HW & Sound > Change system sounds

set the sound for Windows Explorer > Complete Navigation to None. This will get rid of the click in windows explorer (and possibly IE).

This is assuming it's an actual system sound you're talking about and not hardware noise.
