Thinkpad Repair videos
Ok, so I am not abandoning my maddmaddworld account on YouTube, but I am finally getting around to using my old "tfflivemb2" YouTube account to post How-To videos for repairing Thinkpads.
I have two videos up now, a Part 1 and Part 2, for replacing the display unit as a whole on a 600 Series Thinkpad. In this case, I was using a 600E.
Please stop by and tell me what you think, or even better, offer some suggestions on videos to do in the future, assuming that I have the same issue, or system available.

Great videos..will definitely place the screws in the recessed hinge bracket next time I re-assemble .
I don't know how many times I've had to fumble and tip to get those loose screws out.
How about a video(s) for removing the LCD panel from the lid?
Something I've tried once and botched.
Might be worth-while to start a library of repair videos for various models.

Thanks...that is the reason that I started these videos. I was thinking about doing the LCD removal, since I just had to do it again on the same 600E. Maybe I will take the camera down with me tonight and work on it.ms5133 wrote:Great videos..will definitely place the screws in the recessed hinge bracket next time I re-assemble .

I am going to be doing whatever work I need to do, on various machines, and try to capture it on video...
Nice job tfflivemb2.
I have removed and reinstalled the display lid on my 600E about four different times. The last time was about 3 years ago. I am a bit rusty on the procedure, but two things that I remember are the following:
(1) My fingers were too big or clumsy to pull the ribbon connectors off of the motherboard, so I used a thin blade to gently pry the connectors apart.
(2) When you replace the keyboard, be careful with the plastic lenses for the LED's, that they do not push down on the Speaker ribbon cable connector and break it. It happened to me once. Make sure the plastic lenses go behind the Speaker ribbon cable connector.

Thanks for the input so far from everyone...GomJabbar wrote:(1) My fingers were too big or clumsy to pull the ribbon connectors off of the motherboard, so I used a thin blade to gently pry the connectors apart.
@Gom - I'd be very careful about using a blade in there to pry that cable up....maybe a flat head screwdriver, but I'd be worried about accidentally cutting the cable. My hands are on the edge of being too big to get in there now, too...lol
I did not pry on the cable, but on the connector. IIRC, it takes something fairly thin to get between the male and female connectors. And to the point: if you know my knives, they are not that sharp.tfflivemb2 wrote:@Gom - I'd be very careful about using a blade in there to pry that cable up....maybe a flat head screwdriver, but I'd be worried about accidentally cutting the cable. You are right, you need to be careful no matter how you disconnect the cables.

Got myself a ThinkPad 600E with broken hinges, can I repair old hinges instead of buying new ones?
