T43 Warranty Repair Question
T43 Warranty Repair Question
I have a T43 that has 14 months of standard warranty left - 2687-4DU.
It is dead, will not power up, I pulled all the options out - HD, DVD, memory, WiFi, & modem - still dead. Looks like the motherboard.
My question is... can I send it in for service without the harddrive, Wifi card, and DVD drive?
Also, are there any tips for dealing with warranty service in Seattle and what kind of turnaround time is normal. (assuming they have a motherboard in stock)
I tried searching the archives on warranty info - much good info. but could not find the specific answers I need.

Most of the US machines are set up for EZSERV. You can read lots of horror stories, but it mostly always works fine. Assuming they have the parts you need, which is usual, here is how it is supposed to work. If you call on Monday, and they send out a shipping box, which you get on Tuesday. You pack it up and deliver it to a DHL drop-off point the same day. They get the machine on Wednesday and can often/usually fix it the same day. You get it back Thursday.

There will be a check list in the box. Just check what you left in the machine. But you don't really have to leave any CRU items in.

Yes, they perfer you not send in equipment that is not part of the problem. Be sure to document what you are sending in and the condition it leaves your hands in. Note and additional RAM, WiFi cards, etc.zdriver wrote:Thanks for the walkthru...
Sounds simple enough, do you know if I can send it in without the options I mentioned or will they want those left installed.
I've sent 400+ laptops to Ezserv and have had very few (less than 10) problems with the repairs. If I had an issue, I've called them back and they fixed it quick.

Ez-serv has always been good for me, I have sent in MANY units and have always been repaired, only one time when they "could not replicate" a video problem, ended up taking a photo of the error and sent it in again and it was fixed.
Turn around for me is 3 days, one day out, one day to fix and one day to get back, you do have to sign for it since they will not just leave the unit on your door so it may be another day to get it if you have to call to have the unit held. All shipping is done by DHL.

Have a T43 under warranty with defect mainboard.
Called Lenovo (Netherlands) ~3 weeks ago, just before my holidays.
They did not had the mainboard on stock, so they would order it from their supplier.
Returned back from holidays last monday and called Lenovo:
Sorry sir, this mainboard is not available till 22nd of april...
Nothing can be done about this, if the part is not on stock they can not fix it. Have to wait till 22nd of April.
