Difference in performance between 1.6 Ghz and 1.8 Ghz

#1 Post by tallshorty » Wed Mar 19, 2008 1:42 am

Anyone know what are the performance differences between 1.6 and 1.8 Ghz CPU?

Will both be able to play 720p and 1080p .mkv videos on a 22" external LCD monitor?

I can play 720p on my old 1.5ghz, The cpu scales down to 1.2ghz, infact. This is with an old ATI 7500 video card.

The video card can help with this, too. Video cards can do all the decoding and leave the cpu at 5% usage or such.

I hear the Intel X3100 video supports upto 1080i (not p). Assuming you're talking about an X61 here, which has the X3100.

So 720p should work on either. Don't know about 1080p, but I'm guessing yes since a Core 2 would be dualcore and alot faster than my old cpu.
