X30: help with mini pci wifi card

Hi!

New member here, I just picked up a used X30 off Craigslist, and I love it so far, except for the lack of built in wifi. Right now I'm using an obtrusive pcmcia wifi card. I have searched and read previous posts regarding the topic, so please excuse me bringing up an old topic, as I still have some questions.

I am not sure if my model has a built in antenna? If it does not, can I still install a mini pci wifi card? What are my options?

Here is my model: X30 2672-42U

For the life of me I could not find a list of compatible mini pci wifi cards, only what doesnt work and solutions for the 1802 error. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

Your machine does not have antennas installed, and it may be somewhat of a PITA to install them. Personally, I'd find a good PCMCIA wireless card and stick with it, but to each his own.

thanks for the reply! that's a bummer to hear. how difficult is it to install an antenna? is there a source that explains it in detail?

as for pcmcia cards, are there any low profile ones that arent as obtrusive?

I did to my daughter X31 the ray's external antenna mod with a 600mw mini pci card and a 10db antenna and the signal is insane

. It's so good that it can detect and connect the wireless access point from several streets far from the house.

thanks, but thats a little more work than i'd like =)

i also want to keep external obstructions to a minimum. does anyone have any opinion on the 3Com Xjack pcmcia cards? i can't find any pictures of them inside the slot, does it stick out far or at all?

you can upgrade to PCI mini wifi card.
this is what i found from ebay with small antenna.

just got a 3com XJACK a/b/g card this week for my T22.
Works great, antenna pops out about and inch when in use, and only sticks out less than 2mm when tucked back into the card.

well i went through the same

ended up getting the crappy antennas for it, curling it up, and sticking it somewhere inside the case. crap reception but kinda works
